Getting the most out of XPR consumables

Match the consumable stack to the process

Every part in an XPR consumable stack is process-specific. The 130A nozzle for mild steel O2/Air is a different part from the 130A nozzle for stainless N2/N2 or stainless H2-Ar-N2/N2. The shield, swirl ring and electrode also change. Check the table row that matches the amperage AND the gas process you’re running before ordering. Mismatching one part in a stack will produce poor cut quality and accelerate wear on the rest of the stack.

Track cuts per stack

Consumable life varies significantly by amperage, material and process. Track pierces and cut metres per stack from day one. The data tells you when to schedule a planned change before edge quality drops, rather than chasing rejects after the fact. The XPR consumable tool (part 10080574) and electrode torque tool (part 429013) make stack changes faster and more consistent.

Pierce vs cut amperage

XPR systems pierce thicker than they edge-cut at any given amperage. The 170A stack will pierce 40mm mild steel cleanly but is best used for production cutting in the 20mm and below range. Selecting a stack based on pierce capacity rather than cut thickness will burn through consumables faster than necessary. Match the stack to the bulk of your cutting work, not the heaviest pierce.

Stock the starter kits

Hypertherm publish dedicated mild steel consumables starter kits (10083904 without torch, 10083905 with torch). For shops running predictable mild steel work these kits cover the common amperages in one SKU. Worth holding alongside individual part orders for the less common processes.

FAQs

No. Plazmax is an Authorised Hypertherm OEM Channel Partner, which means the consumables we supply come from the same source Hypertherm distributes from. Buying through Plazmax keeps consumables sourcing local, with NZ-based stock and overnight courier delivery.
Stock items ship overnight by express courier from Plazmax NZ. Orders placed before mid-afternoon on a working day are typically with you the following morning anywhere in New Zealand.
Yes. XPR consumables are matched to the Hypertherm XPR power source, not to the table the power source is mounted on. If the system is running an XPR170, XPR300 or XPR460, the parts on this page are correct regardless of who built the table or which integrator commissioned it
Hypertherm publish multiple process options for stainless steel and aluminium cutting on XPR. Each process (N2/N2, F5/N2, N2/H2O, H2-Ar-N2/N2, Air/Air) targets different priorities around cut quality, edge condition, gas cost and consumable life. The right process for your shop depends on what you’re cutting, your downstream finishing requirements, and your gas supply. The XPR plasma instruction manual (part 811530) covers the trade-offs in detail.
Yes. We hold consumables for HPR, MaxPro200, HyPro2000, DuraMax and the full PowerMax range. See the Consumables and Parts page for the full system list.
Yes. Our NZ-based technical team services any Hypertherm-powered plasma cutting system in New Zealand regardless of who manufactured the table. Service, calibration, troubleshooting and parts under one supplier. See our Service and Support page for what’s covered.
