The HPR Cartridge

The Hypertherm HPR cartridge is a single-piece consumable that replaces the five-part standard stack: shield, retaining cap, nozzle, swirl ring and electrode in one cartridge. It eliminates stack-up errors, cuts consumable changeover from minutes to seconds, and connects directly to the standard HPRXD receptacle with no cut setting changes. Cartridges are available for the highest-volume mild steel processes on XD systems.

80A and 130A cartridges produce a small angle difference from dedicated bevel consumables, acceptable for most production environments. Cartridges are compatible with HPR130XD, HPR260XD, HPR400XD and HPR800XD per amperage. Source: Hypertherm Torch and Consumables Catalogue (880620 Revision 12).

Compatible HPR systems

These consumables, cartridges and torch components are compatible with current Hypertherm HyPerformance HPRXD plasma cutting systems running on Plazmax tables and on third-party tables built by other manufacturers.

  • HPR130XD - 130 amp HyPerformance system. Uses consumable rows up to 130A.
  • HPR260XD - 260 amp HyPerformance system. Uses consumable rows up to 260A.
  • HPR400XD - 400 amp HyPerformance system. Uses consumable rows up to 400A.
  • HPR800XD - 800 amp HyPerformance system. Uses all consumable rows including the 600A and 800A rows.

Running an older HPR260 or HPR130 (non-XD)? We supply those consumables too - see the FAQ below, or contact us with your system serial number and we will match the correct parts.

Getting the most out of HPR consumables

Match the consumable stack to the process

Every part in an HPRXD consumable stack is matched to the amperage, the material and the gas process. The 130A stainless stack run on H35 uses a different nozzle retaining cap from the same stack run on N2, and the 130A aluminium stack changes electrode between H35 and Air. Check the table row that matches the amperage AND the process you are running before ordering. Mismatching one part in a stack will produce poor cut quality and accelerate wear on the rest of the stack.

Consider the cartridge for high-volume mild steel

For 80A, 130A and 260A mild steel work, the HPR cartridge replaces the five-part stack with a single consumable. It removes stack-up errors, cuts changeover time, and needs no change to cut settings. Note that the cartridge runs on its own cartridge torch (part 420729, or the 528101 torch starter kit), a one-off purchase that connects to the standard HPRXD receptacle and sits alongside your existing HPRXD torch. For shops running predictable mild steel volume it is worth holding cartridges once the torch is in place, alongside individual parts for the less common processes.

Run SilverPlus where available

Hypertherm manufacture SilverPlus electrodes for several mild steel amperages (80A, 130A, 200A, 260A and 400A on HPRXD). The difference is in the emitter: a standard electrode seats the hafnium in copper, while SilverPlus seats it in silver. The hafnium/silver interface pulls more heat away from the emitter and forms a stronger bond than hafnium/copper, so the hafnium burns to a deeper pit before it fails and the nozzle orifice holds its shape for longer. On average that doubles both electrode and nozzle life on mild steel from 80 to 260 amps compared with standard copper. Where a SilverPlus part number is listed in the mild steel table it is a direct swap that lowers cost per cut on production work. The deeper burn is the mechanism, not a drawback: on height-control systems you may need a small upward arc-voltage adjustment to suit.

Track cuts per stack

Consumable life varies significantly by amperage, material and process. Track pierces and cut metres per stack from day one. The data tells you when to schedule a planned change before edge quality drops, rather than chasing rejects after the fact. The consumables removal tool (part 104119) makes stack changes faster and more consistent.

FAQs

No. Plazmax is an Authorised Hypertherm OEM Channel Partner, which means the consumables we supply come from the same source Hypertherm distributes from. Buying through Plazmax keeps consumables sourcing local, with NZ-based stock and overnight courier delivery.
Stock items ship overnight by express courier from Plazmax NZ. Orders placed before mid-afternoon on a working day are typically with you the following morning anywhere in New Zealand.
Yes. HPRXD consumables are matched to the Hypertherm HPRXD power source, not to the table the power source is mounted on. If the system is running an HPR130XD, HPR260XD, HPR400XD or HPR800XD, the parts on this page are correct regardless of who built the table or which integrator commissioned it.
The HPR cartridge is a single-piece consumable that replaces the standard five-part stack for 80A, 130A and 260A mild steel cutting. It removes stack-up errors and cuts changeover to seconds. One thing to know before switching: the cartridge runs on a dedicated cartridge torch, so moving across means a one-off purchase of the cartridge torch (part 420729, or the 528101 torch starter kit which includes the torch head, water tube and retaining cap) alongside the cartridges themselves. That cartridge torch connects directly to your standard HPRXD receptacle (part 220705) and uses the standard HPRXD cut chart settings, so there are no CNC or cut setting changes. Your existing HPRXD torch stays in service for all your other processes. For high-volume mild steel work the cartridge usually pays for itself in reduced downtime and rework. For stainless, aluminium and less common processes, the standard multi-piece stacks remain the right choice.
Yes. We hold consumables for the legacy HPR260 and HPR130 systems as well as the current HPRXD range. The part numbers differ from the XD stacks, so contact us with your system model and serial number and we will match the correct parts. We also supply XD technology upgrade kits if you want to move a legacy HPR260 or HPR130 onto cartridge and XD consumables.
Yes. Our NZ-based technical team services any Hypertherm-powered plasma cutting system in New Zealand regardless of who manufactured the table. Service, calibration, troubleshooting and parts under one supplier. See our Service and Support page for what is covered.
