Genuine Hypertherm Powermax SYNC cartridges, in stock and shipping NZ wide

Plazmax is an Authorised Hypertherm OEM Channel Partner. We supply Powermax SYNC cutting consumables for all Plazmax cutting systems as well as for any other brand of CNC, track cutter or robotic cell running a Powermax SYNC power source.

Mechanised cartridges

The SYNC series replaced the multi-piece consumable stack with one cartridge. There is no electrode, swirl ring, nozzle, retaining cap and shield to order separately and assemble - one part number is the whole consumable.

A cartridge always fits upward, never downward. The 65 A cartridge runs in a Powermax65, 85 or 105 SYNC. The 105 A cartridge only runs in a Powermax105 SYNC. Fitting a higher rated cartridge to a smaller power supply does not unlock more amperage - a 105 A cartridge in a Powermax65 SYNC is limited to 65 amps by the power supply.

Hypertherm does not recommend cutting aluminium with FineCut cartridges, and does not recommend F5 with FineCut cartridges.

Ohmic sensing ring

The ohmic sensing ring is what connects a mechanised cartridge to a torch height control system for initial height sensing. It clips onto the cartridge, and the tabs on the ring must touch the shoulder of the cartridge to sense correctly. A ring that is not fully seated is a common and easily missed cause of inconsistent pierce height.

059734Mini machine torch7.6 m (25 ft)

The mini machine torch has a shorter body than the full length torch and suits tight gantry installations and robotic mounting. Both take the same cartridges.

Compatible setups

These cartridges are matched to the power source, not to the table. If your table runs a Powermax45 SYNC, Powermax65 SYNC, Powermax85 SYNC or Powermax105 SYNC power supply, these are the correct cartridges whatever the brand of CNC cutting system, and whether that table came from us or from another manufacturer.

These cartridges also run on older Powermax systems using a cartridge adapter. Hypertherm part 428951 converts a Duramax or Duramax Lock machine or robotic torch on a Powermax45 XP, Powermax65, Powermax85 or Powermax105 to the cartridge platform, so the same cartridges listed here will fit. Match the cartridge to your power supply's output: a Powermax65 tops out at 65 A, so the 85 A and 105 A cartridges suit the larger systems only.

Two things worth knowing before you order the adapter. It adds 17.5 mm (0.69 inch) to the torch length, which affects your torch holder and Z axis clearance, so check your setup first. It also has no cartridge data connection, so you do not get the automatic process setup or the consumable life tracking that a SYNC system gives you through a SmartSYNC torch. Hypertherm does not recommend the adapter on Duramax retrofit torches for Powermax1000, 1250 or 1650, and it is not compatible with Duramax Hyamp standard or long style torches.

Getting the most out of Powermax SYNC cartridges

Clean, dry air is the single biggest lever

Oil, water and vapour in the air supply degrade cut quality and shorten cartridge life more than any other factor. Hypertherm recommends a three-stage coalescing filter in addition to the filter built into the power supply, and an air dryer in humid environments. In most New Zealand shops the air dryer is not optional if you want predictable cartridge life. Check and replace the air filter element regularly.

Hold inlet pressure between 110 and 120 psi while gas is flowing

Pressure measured with no flow tells you very little. Check it during a cut or in gas test mode.

Do not run past 95% of the cartridge rating

Pushing amperage to the top of a cartridge’s rating to chase speed shortens its life sharply. If you need more amps, step up a cartridge rather than run the current one hard.

Fire the torch only when it needs to be firing

Every start consumes cartridge life. Nesting that minimises pierces will get you more parts per cartridge than any other programming change. Cutting expanded metal is hard on cartridges specifically because the pilot arc runs continuously.

Watch the arc voltage as the cartridge wears

As a cartridge ages the arc lengthens and arc voltage rises. Torch height control that senses arc voltage compensates automatically. If you are setting height manually, it will need adjusting through the life of the cartridge.

Check the centre hole for roundness

An out of round or debris-clogged orifice shows up as a wide kerf, irregular bevel or a wandering cut long before the cartridge fails outright.

FAQs

Older Powermax systems used five separate parts - electrode, swirl ring, nozzle, retaining cap and shield. The SYNC cartridge replaces all five with one part. The power supply also reads the cartridge and sets gas pressure, amperage and cutting mode automatically.
Yes, with Hypertherm cartridge adapter 428951, which converts a Duramax or Duramax Lock machine torch on a Powermax45 XP, 65, 85 or 105 to the cartridge platform. Choose the cartridge that matches your system's amperage. The adapter adds 17.5 mm to the torch length and does not carry the cartridge data connection, so automatic process setup and consumable tracking stay exclusive to SYNC systems.
It will fit, but the power supply limits it to 65 amps, so you gain nothing and pay more per cartridge. Match the cartridge to the amperage you are actually cutting at.
Only if your torch height control uses ohmic contact for initial height sensing. If it senses by arc voltage alone you do not need it. Most mechanised installations use ohmic sensing for the initial height reference.
Hypertherm does not recommend it. Use a standard cutting cartridge for aluminium. FineCut is for thin mild steel and stainless.
Yes. Cartridges are matched to the Hypertherm power source, not to the table, so if the machine runs a Powermax SYNC we supply the correct cartridge whatever brand built the gantry.
